Joe was born in Greenville to Mary Kathleen (Gauvey) Floyd and the late Willard Dean Floyd, Sr. He was the 7th of 8 children. Joe has 2 children, a son Brandon of Mendon, OH and a daughter Courtney Floyd of Union City, IN.
He started with the Oliver Funeral Home on June 28, 1981. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School in Greenville and then graduated in 1984 from Greenville Senior High School. He continued his education at Edison State Community College having received an Associate of Science degree in June of 1987. Joe then attended the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and received and Associates of Applied Science in Mortuary Science in March of 1988. He also wrote the State Insurance Licensing exam in 1988 and received his life insurance agent’s license. In 2002 Joe received his Certified Preplanning Consultants (CPC) designation from the Funeral Service Education Foundation.
After writing the state board exams Joe received his Embalmer’s/Funeral Director’s license in June of 1989. Upon his licensing he was named manager of the Greenville funeral home. Joe held that position until November of 2004 when in an effort to continue the tradition of a locally owned funeral home he purchased the funeral home from Roger Oliver.
Joe is a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. He is a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Sons of the American Legion, Eagles, Elk’s and Moose Lodges.
His professional memberships include, Ohio Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, the Ohio Embalmer’s Association and the British Institute of Embalmer’s.
